Dicom Transportation Expands U.S. Offerings
Montreal-based Dicom Transportation Group has acquired Orbis Logistics to add final mile capabilities and a wider distribution presence in the U.S. Dicom customers “will gain access to strategically located distribution centers and final-mile delivery points, which will particularly benefit large-scale retail and industrial customers,” according to a company statement.
Orbis operates primarily within the Southeast and Midwest U.S. with final mile and cross-dock capabilities in New Orleans, Birmingham, Ala., Lakeland, Fla. and Indianapolis. Dicom said it will integrate those assets “into a portfolio that includes expedited, regional parcel transportation, less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload (TL), cross-border, and final mile network capabilities.”
The Orbis deal was the latest in Dicom’s strategy to extend its reach across North America with the acquisition of courier, LTL and TL transportation providers in Canada and the U.S., as well as 3PLs that manage transportation, logistics and supply chain functions for businesses in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. In March, Dicom acquired Windsor, Ontario-based Modern Forwarding to enhance its Canada-U.S. cross-border services with additional TL and LTL capabilities. Modern boasts a customer base that includes several Fortune 500 companies and has a fleet of around 100 drivers and owner-operators.
The additional capabilities provided by the Orbis acquisition “are consistent with the focus of Dicom…to provide unique transportation and logistics solutions across a variety of industries” said Dicom CEO Scott Dobak. “Orbis Logistics serves as a perfect final mile complement to our current transportation network in the United States.”
